Rare primate encounters and family-friendly safaris

Uganda is a less travelled destination for family safaris, which makes the natural wonders within all the more alluring. Home to some of the world’s most beautiful forests and one of our favourite jungle lodges, this landlocked East African country is full of astonishing sites and exhilarating activities that are sure to become lifelong memories.

The famous Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to ten families of mountain gorillas, which teenagers and adults can seek out on challenging gorilla trekking experiences (the minimum age for this activity is 15 years old). Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is another option, with a lower chance of gorilla sightings but plenty of other primates and three inactive volcanoes to explore.

Younger family members can enjoy game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park – known for its tree-climbing lions – and spot vervet monkeys in the lakeside town of Entebbe. The waters of Lake Victoria offer plenty of aquatic activities and feed the thundering cascades of Murchison Falls to the north.

We can arrange an itinerary with just the right mix of exciting wildlife encounters, gorgeous natural scenery and luxurious hideaways for an extraordinary family tour of Uganda. Contact us to gain expert insights from our team and start planning the perfect adventure for your family.

When to visit Uganda

The best time for a family trip to Uganda is during one of the country’s two dry seasons: June–September and December–February. These are the optimal months for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and safaris in Queen Elizabeth National Park, as well as other outdoor activities.

There are two wet seasons in Uganda: March–May and October–November. These months can be uncomfortably rainy and muddy, but they also offer smaller crowds and beautiful scenery if you’re willing to brave the weather.
