Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda
Kyambura Gorge Lodge

Luxury on the edge of the Kyambura Gorge
In a converted old coffee processing plant sitting in a green hillside, Kyambura Gorge Lodge is an eclectic base for an adventurous safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
There are eight airy bandas (traditional huts) to choose from, each reflecting local building styles and featuring private balconies that offer sweeping views of the rolling savanna and the distant Rwenzori Mountains, or the kyambura gorge. The stylish bandas weave a contemporary theme throughout their rooms, adorned with local artefacts that comprise part of the attractive decoration.
The main lodge – which was once the processing plant – features a colourful living area and outdoor decking area. Here a large pool glimmers in the sun, ready for you to dip your toes in and admire the mountain vistas.
Kyambura Gorge Lodge also includes a personal butler service for every guest. During your stay you’ll enjoy local delicacies prepared with fresh ingredients, before indulging further with a rejuvenating massage within either of the two treatment rooms.
The lodge’s main highlight is certainly the experiences: embark on a trek from the lodge along the Fig Tree Trail to venture into the gorge to look for the ‘Lost Chimps of Kyambura’, spot some of the six hundred amazing bird species that call Queen Elizabeth National Park home, visit the Kyambura Eco-tourism project and plant a tree seedling in the wildlife buffer zone, along with much more.

Places to combine Kyambura Gorge Lodge with

Akagera National Park
In the north-eastern section of Akagera National Park you’ll find Wilderness Magashi Camp overlooking the stunning Lake Rwanyakazinga. The camp is surrounded by some of East Africa’s most beautiful savannah, lakes, swamps and rolling grasslands.
The camp, with design and interiors inspired by traditional Rwandan culture, boasts six spacious tents with lake views. When you’re not enjoying the peace and solitude of your luxury safari tent, relax in the spacious lounge and social areas that connect you to the wild nature beyond.
The pool is the ideal place to cool off after a busy day of game viewing and birdwatching. And evenings are best spent on the deck around the fire pit, or relaxing in the dedicated bar area.
Wildlife experiences at Wilderness Magashi camp are exceptional. The region is home to one of the continent’s largest hippo populations, as well as large numbers of crocodiles. You’ll find the rare sitatunga antelope and other plains game roaming across the plains. There are also over 520 different species of birds, many of which you can spot from camp.
After a 20-year absence, lions were reintroduced to the area in 2015, and the population is thriving. You can also hope to spot rare black rhinos who were reintroduced to the park in 2017.
