Four days in The Lofoten Islands

Spend your time in the Lofoten islands enjoying the distinctive scenery of beaches and mountains, along with the untouched lands and picturesque fishing villages. Perhaps you’ll investigate the island’s Viking history or explore the world’s largest deep-water coral reef. You’ll have our top recommendations for making the most of your stay.

      Highlights of the Lofoten Islands

      Fjords and Fishing villages

      A coastal adventure

      A Zodiac exploration

Enjoy a private tour of the Lofoten Islands’ fjords and fishing villages. Knowledgeable guides will collect you from your hotel, provide you with the necessary equipment and then bring you towards the north of the archipelago. Skirting the impressive mountains of the Vest Fjord and Raftsundet (Strait of Raft) you will then reach the Troll Fjord, one of the most emblematic parts of the islands. During this expedition you’ll see local wildlife such as white-tailed eagles, and enjoy lunch in a restaurant at the whaling island of Skrova or Henningsvaer. Continue by Zodiac to the arctic fishing village of Henningsvaer where you will have time to walk around and explore one of the most beautiful fishing villages in the archipelago.

A car tour of the Lofoten Islands' fjords

Driving through the panoramic roads of the Lofoten Islands along the coast, you will head towards the south, stopping at scenic spots. Enjoy views of wild unspoiled white sand beaches, glacier valleys, granite mountains and polar fishing villages. You can then decide to have lunch in the fishing villages of either Nusfjord or Stamsund, before continuing to explore the islands towards the west coast of the archipelago.

      Days 4–5

      Overnight in Tromso

There are plenty of museums, shops and bars to enjoy within the vibrant arctic city of Tromso. Your travel designer will give you our top recommendations for adventures, dining and shopping so that you can make the most of your time here.

Explore the history of polar expeditions

      The Polar Museum

This museum is situated in a historic customs warehouse, which dates back to 1830 and has an idyllic location on the waterfront in the historic Skansen area. Wander through the various exhibitions, such as the permanent ones that delve into sealing, overwintering, polar expeditions and the cultural history of Svalbard. Learn the stories of explorer Willem Barentsz’ very first encounter with a polar bear, his daring hot air balloon expeditions over the polar regions and how he celebrated a lonely Christmas in a trapper’s hut. The former boathouse features temporary exhibitions based on new polar research.

      Days 5–8

Three days exploring the Svalbard Islands

The arctic tundra of the Svalbard Islands offers visitors the ultimate wintry adventure, including exciting kayaking, trekking, snowmobiling and dog sledding tours. Witness astonishing wildlife from polar bears to whales, discover glaciers, fjords and ice caves and marvel at the beauty of the northern lights. Your travel designer will give you our top recommendations for icy explorations so that you can make the most of your time here.

      Snow adventures

      Remote wilderness

      A ride through the snow

Polar bear spotting on the East Coast

Enjoy a snowmobiling adventure to the East Coast, known for its magnificent glaciers and icy landscapes. A knowledgeable guide will take you to the places polar bears have been known to hunt seals on – albeit you’ll remain at a safe distance. From the comfort of your snowmobiles you’ll be able to explore the rugged coastlines, admire the scenic valleys and drive across the sea ice as you learn about the remote wilderness here.

      Husky sledding

Discover the excitement of harnessing your own dogs with the help of experienced sled guides. You will meet the friendly dogs and after preparing the sleds, start a fantastic and unforgettable ride. The only noise you will hear is the sound of the sled and the dogs’ paws on the snow.
