Exciting Peru rail tours in comfort and style

There is no better, more stylish, or comfortable way to travel to the misty Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, than by train.

Taking a Machu Picchu train allows you time to relax and take in the scenery of the misty mountains and rushing rivers, as you wind your way to the final train station on the line, the tiny town of Aguas Calientes. You can choose to start and end the journey in Cusco, the Sacred Valley, or depending on your itinerary you can choose to take different sections of the route. There are two locomotive options available: the oh-so romantic Hiram Bingham train or the Vistadome train, complete with windows in the roof for a panoramic view of the mountains.

Peru luxury train travel extends beyond Machu Picchu. Between the city of Cusco, mystical Lake Titicaca and the White City of Arequipa, the Belmond Andean Explorer provides luxurious overnight journeys flanked by breathtaking views in utter comfort.

We can help you create the perfect itinerary in Peru. Combine your train trips with hiking, biking, scenic driving excursions and the opportunity to learn about culture and tradition with experiences in our Positive Impact Collection.

Highlights

Enjoy gourmet food and wine on aboard the Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu

For epic overnight journeys travel across the high passes to Lake Titicaca, sleeping in your luxury cabin

Try hiking part of the inca trail. Hop off the Vistadome mid-journey for an exciting train-trekking adventure

Travelling around Peru by train feels totally indulgent. It’s hard to believe that these luxury trains are operating across some of the most remote areas in Peru, taking guests from one incredible highlight to another. After a busy day of sightseeing at Machu Picchu, enjoying an evening meal on the Hiram Bingham, heading back to Cusco is the perfect ending to an epic adventure at the incredible ancient ruins.

When to visit

Luxury train journeys in Peru run all year round. However, many of Peru’s highlights are best visited during the dry winter season, which runs from May to October. February is Peru’s rainy month so it’s best to avoid this if you hope to do a lot of outdoor activities in between your rail journeys.
