Breathtaking scenery, ancient cultures and welcoming locals

A land where the echoes of ancient empires resonate through sky-piercing peaks, and the mighty Amazon snakes through lush jungle, Peru invites you to embark on a journey across breathtaking landscapes and immerse yourself in its enduring cultural heritage.

You’ll get up close to ancient cultures and awe-inspiring natural wonders in the company of local guides whose passion for their country is contagious. Its pre-Columbian cultures left a wealth of treasures from the awe-inspiring citadel of Machu Picchu and the great Chumú capital of Chan Chan to the mystifying Nazca lines scrawled across the desert. Even in its cities you will find tell-tale signs of ancient empires nestled amongst colonial Spanish architecture and modern developments.

Uncovering the past is one of the highlights of a trip to Peru, but this is also a country very much living in the present. Many would argue its foodie scene is unrivalled in South America, so take a seat at one of Lima’s top restaurants and embark on a voyage of discovery as ingredients from the Amazon and the highlands are turned into mouth-watering creations.

Head out of the charming city of Cusco and you’ll find yourself in the Sacred Valley, where the jagged peaks of the Andes mountains stretch across the horizon. In the south, Andean condors soar over the dramatic chasms of the Colca Canyon and the whisperings of legends whistle across the waters of Lake Titicaca. And then of course there’s the Amazon. The source of the world’s second longest river lies in southern Peru and the Amazon rainforest covers almost two thirds of the country.

Peru will constantly amaze you with its beauty, its rich culture and the warmth of its people. It’s not only the dazzling sight of Machu Picchu that will stay with you, but the memories of the colours you saw, the ceviche you ate and the llamas you met.

When to visit

Peru is very much a year-round destination. We suggest avoiding the peak of the rainy season, which is February. Visitors in May through to September will enjoy the dry winter season, which is the best time to visit Machu Picchu and enjoy some of the incredible treks Peru has to offer.
