Geothermal spas, stargazing and spectacular nature

New Zealand – also known by its Māori name, Aotearoa – is a place where natural beauty and authentic wellness go hand in hand. Wellness experiences here are inextricably linked to the world around you, drawing upon the awe-inspiring power of nature to create reflective and transformative moments that will leave you feeling physically, mentally and spiritually renewed.

On the North Island, the thermal pools of Rotorua await. These bubbling bodies of water are heated by volcanic activity beneath the Earth’s surface. Their soothing and healing properties are harnessed at luxurious hotels and spas, including the renowned Polynesian Spa beside Lake Rotorua, where you can enjoy treatments inspired by Indigenous knowledge and traditions.

The larger and wilder South Island is also full of transformative wellness experiences. On the shores of Lake Tekapo you’ll find some of the best stargazing in New Zealand, complemented by the region’s own thermal hot pools. For a different sort of natural immersion, try forest bathing amid the dense foliage of the West Coast or on Waiheke Island up north, just a short ferry ride from Auckland.

Our team of travel designers can organise a wellness tour of New Zealand that fuses outdoor adventures, relaxing retreats and singular hotels to capture the essence of this country. Speak with us to start crafting your ideal itinerary.

When to visit New Zealand

The best time for a New Zealand wellness tour depends on which activities you’re interested in. The thermal pools in Rotorua are especially enjoyable during the chillier months of autumn (March–May) and winter (June–August). These are also prime months for stargazing, as lower temperatures mean clearer skies.

If you want to spent lots of time outdoors, summer (December–February) brings the warmest weather for hiking, boat trips and beach days. Spring (September–November) is also a great time to see wildflowers and avoid the surge of summer crowds.
