Quinta do Vallado Wine Hotel

Located on the banks of the Corgo River, Quinta do Vallado, built in 1716, is one of the oldest and more famous “quintas” in the Douro Valley. It initially belonged to the legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and remains to this day in the hands of her descendants.

Today, Quinta do Vallado has 10 hectares of old vineyards planted between the 1920s and 1950s, including Vinha da Granja, in 1929, and Vinha da Coroa, in 1958. The remaining 55 hectares were planted in the 1990s.

Quinta do Vallado Wine Hotel has 19 guest rooms. Five in the Traditional House which was built in the 18th century and which opened to guests in 2005, eight in the modern building and six in the Eira Suites. The construction of the Modern Building, designed by Architect Francisco Vieira de Campos, was completed in 2012. The main material used for its construction was schist, the traditional stone of the region. Spend some time exploring the property with the warm ochre walls of the house and grey of the schist clad modern building surrounded by beautiful gardens dotted with bright flowers.

The hotel has a small restaurant located in the modern building. In the kitchen, your meals are prepared with fresh vegetables and fruit from the organic garden, and paired with the best products sourced from local producers. You’re also invited to join a daily tour of Quinta do Vallado’s winery and ageing cellars, where you will learn about the wine production process. And, of course, the tour ends with a tasting of some of their main wines.
