Set within seven acres of private land, on what was once a royal orchard, is The River Resort, overlooking the tranquil waters of the Mekong.

The resort draws on cultural traditions and local heritage and has been built in harmony with its natural surroundings, allowing guests to appreciate the beauty of the area.

There are 22 riverfront villas with panoramic views of the Mekong River, as well as six garden rooms that look out over the lush rice paddies. Furnishings are made from local bamboo and decorated with contemporary and traditional Laotian and Thai textiles.

Enjoy delicious local and international cuisine at the open-air dining room, and be sure to grab a drink and enjoy the sunset from the terrace. When you want to simply relax and unwind, take a dip in the infinity pool or indulge in a Lao or Thai massage.

Residence Sisouk

Set in the heart of Pakse in southern Laos is Residence Sisouk. Once a private home, this property has been renovated to a charming effect with elegant, colonial furnishings blending with quirky artwork and Lao textiles to create a warm and traditional atmosphere.

Besides a homely feel, the fourteen rooms provide mod cons such as wi-fi, with some featuring four poster beds and flower-filled balconies overlooking the Sedone River.

Panoramic city views can then be enjoyed at the top floor lounge bar where Laotian and French food is provided, while Cafe Sinouk offers another dining spot.

La Folie Lodge

Owned by a French count, La Folie Lodge is a tranquil and comfortable lodge set in front of a Mae Khong River beach. It’s the best place to stay on Don Daeng and ideal for exploring this corner of rural Laos.

La Folie consists of 26 stilted wooden bungalows, simply furnished with their own private balcony. For families or friends travelling together there is also a private two bedroom residence. All rooms have views across the wide sandy beach and river, and from where you can catch sight of Mekong life in water buffalos cooling off in the waters and fishermen flinging their nets.

The bungalows are set within lush gardens and centred around the pool and adjacent open air restaurant. Choose between the Laos or Western menu as well as spectacular views across the river to the pre-Angkorian Khmer ruins of Wat Phou (8 kilomteres away).

Explore Don Daeng by bicycle or on foot, and take the time to witness the natural beauty and unspoilt charm of the island.
