Tucked away on the Kudat Peninsula in northeast Borneo, Hibiscus Villa is a private oceanside retreat offering complete seclusion. Set amid swaying palms and fronted by Kota Kinabalu’s coral-fringed coastline, the villa is surrounded by secluded forest with access to a private, white-sand beach washed by the South China Sea. Designed for open-air living, its wide verandas and shaded terraces invite you to sit and take in the sea breeze and fiery sunsets.

Indoors, large communal spaces blend simplicity and comfort with rich hardwoods softened by plush textiles. The gardens surrounding the villa create a sense of natural calm. There’s a large T-shaped pool that extends around the beach side of the villa, perfect for a calm swim with an ocean view. A private chef is available for meals cooked using local ingredients and enjoyed with a soundtrack of waves.

Days unfold slowly with coffee in the poolside gazebo or a walk out to the beach. To explore further afield, you have use of snorkelling equipment, stand-up paddleboards and bicycles. Hibiscus Villa offers a base for exploring the lesser-known north of Borneo, from its tropical coastline to the villages and natural reserves nearby. It’s an ideal escape for couples, families or small groups seeking privacy and immersion in nature.
