Depending on your tastes, preferences, ages and abilities we’ll help you choose from the wild game concessions in its lesser-known corners with authentic campaign-style camps, to action-packed game drives in the Serengeti. There is a lot of choice, and we can help put together a bespoke itinerary that fits you all perfectly.

From our experience, Tanzania is a country better suited to older families as the choices for young families here are quite limited given the remote locations, age restrictions at the accommodation, and the level of travelling involved with many of its destinations. Nevertheless, we have a great portfolio of family-friendly lodges, camps and villas in Tanzania that have kids clubs and special activities for younger children so please speak to one of our consultants.

Nyerere National Park

Sand Rivers Selous

With views over a picturesque curve in the Rufiji River, Sand Rivers Selous is ideally located for some prime game sightings. Landscapes including woodlands, lakes and wide open plains are home to a plethora of wildlife and give you the chance to see some spectacular creatures. Whether you explore the surrounding area by car, boat or on foot, you will be well cared for and in the hands of some wonderful guides. Lions and wild dog are common sightings and you could follow the elephant tracks as they span the savannahs. Buffalo are in huge numbers in this reserve and should be given a wide berth but on the back of a vehicle you will be awed by the sheer numbers that congregate here. Two types of rooms are available; 5 Riverside Rooms and 3 Hillside Suites. The Riverside Rooms are all open fronted and have been elevated on to platforms to maximise your views over the river and woodland beyond. Designed with a modern Africa touch, they are luxurious to behold and extremely comfortable. The Hillside Suites are extremely spacious and open plan, and also have their own private lounge area for you to enjoy some significant privacy. Each of these suites have their own private pool which is extremely refreshing in the heat of the afternoon.

Tarangire National Park

Forest Chem Chem

Forest Chem Chem is an exclusive-use camp set within a secluded pocket of fever trees along the Tarangire River within Chem Chem’s 20,000 acres of private land. The camp consists of two vintage-style safari tents and one two-bedroom family tent, all with indoor and outdoor showers. Accommodating up to six adults and two children, it is perfect for families or small groups looking for an intimate safari experience. A soft yellow, grey and black colour scheme is carried throughout the camp, and there is an elegant lounge tent, a fire pit and outdoor swing bed. As well as morning and afternoon game drives, there is the option to zoom in on the smaller details on a walking safari, visit a local Maasai village and join in with cooking around the camp fire. Start the day right with a walk up the hills to watch the sun rise over the entire Chem Chem concession and finish on a high with sundowners around Lake Burunge.

Ngorongoro Crater

The Manor at Ngorongoro

Echoing the style of an elegant farm home, The Manor is Ngorongoro Crater’s answer to luxury country living. Designed with Cape Dutch architecture, this is a sumptuous and indeed homely property found in a 1500-acre Arabica coffee estate, right next to the renowned Ngorongoro conservation area. Accommodation comes in the form of charming, private manor cottages and one larger stable cottage. All enjoy bundles of comfort, lavish amenities and lush hill views, though the two-storey stable cottage features an impressive three bedrooms, dining and lounging areas and an upstairs playroom for little ones. Besides witnessing the awesome game of the crater, your time here can be spent feasting on delicious cuisine, relaxing with a massage or dip in the pool and horse riding and cycling around the surrounding area.

Serengeti National Park

Lamai Serengeti

Lamai Serengeti Lodge has a pride of place up on a kopje overlooking the vast open Serengeti plains towards the Maasai Mara in Kenya.

Ngorongoro Crater

This is a wonderfully comfortable and charming lodge, set in a working farm within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. A short drive from the famous Ngorongoro Crater surrounded by forest and gardens Gibb’s Farm gives you some peace and quiet away from the bustling traffic that congregates around the busy crater rim. This interesting working farm is a great place to get out of the safari vehicle and walk the 95 acres of farm and forest that make up Gibb’s. The farmhouse itself is surrounding by rather charming English gardens and where you can simply relax and enjoy the organic coffee that is processed and roasted just outside the door of the lodge. Each of the 18 cottages is very interestingly decorated with names and themes relating to different aspects of the farm and surrounding communities. Each cottage has its own unique story which certainly adds a certain charm to the place. The warm main dining area is perfect to relax with a good book, or you could simply enjoy a turn about the gardens. Activities around here are plentiful and either take in the surrounding farm and village or you could go further afield and explore the Conservation Area that the lodge sits adjacent to. Either way, Gibb’s Farm offers you the chance to relax within a beautiful area before you explore the Crater itself.
