Wilderness Magashi Peninsula

Intimate safari camp with exceptional wildlife experiences
Wilderness Magashi Peninsula is a luxurious camp and exclusive retreat in the heart of Akagera National Park in Rwanda. The camp is remote. The vistas are dominated by never-ending skies and uninterrupted views of sweeping plains and shimmery lakes.
This intimate camp is designed for those seeking unparalleled privacy. There are two large private villas, each with their own deck and plunge pool. The camp’s main area consists of a spacious lounge and dining space, where Rwandan inspired interiors open out onto a large darkwood deck. The views stretch into the wilderness.
Set apart from the camp’s main area is the Villa: an exclusive use property that accommodates six people with it’s own pool, social and dining areas. The Villa is ensures complete exclusivity. You’ll enjoy personalised in-villa cuisine and a dedicated private safari guide and vehicle.
The wildlife and safari experiences are immersive. Situated within a private concession on the shores of Lake Rwanyakazinga, with the Mutumba Mountains rising in the distance you will feel completely connected to nature. These vast landscapes form the backdrop to extraordinary wildlife encounters.
Akagera is a conservation success story, home to one of Africa’s most diverse ecosystems. Elephants wade in the lake and hippos bask along its banks. Embark on a morning game drive, glide silently through the waterways on a boating safari, or set out on a guided nature walk.
Conservation and community engagement are at the heart of Wilderness Magashi Peninsula. In partnership with the Akagera Management Company, Wilderness supports vital initiatives such as predator monitoring, invasive plant management and educational programs designed to inspire the next generation of conservationists. A key focus is ensuring that both wildlife and local communities thrive side by side.

Places to combine Wilderness Magashi Peninsula with

Volcanoes National Park
The much anticipated Kwitonda Lodge opened in August 2019, and is Singita’s first foray into Rwanda, bringing with it their celebrated philosophy of sustainable luxury.
Located in a prized 178-acre parcel of lush meadows and wetlands right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park with magnificent views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes, there are eight suites and a four-bedroom villa, Kataza House. Architects and interior designers are selecting locally sourced and produced materials while the local community has been engaged in building using traditional techniques. A light footprint is central to the project, embodying the gentleness and humility of the great silverback from which the lodge takes its name. Singita has a long-term approach to conservation, and part of the plan is to plant thousands of trees around the lodge.
As well as treks into the park to spend time with the gorillas, for which the Kwitonda Lodge is ideally located, you will be able explore the montane forests of Nyungwe National Park, see the rare Golden Monkey and visit the local community. Guests will also have the chance to expand the gorillas’ habitat by helping out with the lodge’s tree planting and habitat restoration project. And, with Tanzania’s Serengeti just a short hop across Lake Victoria to the east, Kwitonda Lodge brings the opportunity for a ‘Singita only’ safari experience combining gorillas and the astounding Grumeti Reserve.
